23: Both the Mileage and the Weather

So, it was 23 degrees yesterday at the start for our 23 mile run. It was cold. It's the kind of weather that I like somewhat, because I feel like a badass for running in it, but it got old. We warmed up somewhat by the time we got to Monkton (mile 7), but then cooled down at Monkton and had to warm up all over again north of Monkton. By the time we were passing Mile Mark 10 or so, I was tired of being cold.

To make matters worse, I had a cold. On any other running day, I would have actually probably have skipped the run, or at least I certainly wouldn't have gone out in such cold weather. When I woke up, I had some serious chest congestion (most "Should I run when I'm sick?" articles tell you chest congestion is on the "don't run" list, I knew this). What else was I going to do, though? I had to get the run in. But, it didn't make it easy to breathe and my constant coughing drove me nuts. Plus, it made my nose run uncontrollably.

It did end up warming somewhat by about 15 miles into the run. The sun was higher in the sky and things were getting warm. To be honest, I didn't feel bad or tired from a true running perspective until we were about 19 miles in, and then I ended up with two sore knees. This is baffling because I don't usually have sore knees. I wonder if I was tense and it changed my gait? Who knows.

I had originally planned to do 25 miles, and then I thought I'd just tack on one more, 24 miles. But, the more I thought about it and talked to people, I knew that wasn't necessary, and since I was feeling bad... really no point, huh?

But -- we all made it! Steve made it out, despite the dead car battery and starting late. Misty battled her continued knee trouble. Sheila battled her own congestion. Todd joined us for this run, but continues to have stomach issues. Carol is recovering from her own knee problems. And Maria and Lynn looked strong and awesome, and I'm glad they joined us for this long run.

I'm feeling somewhat not confident about Disney. Not that I won't finish, I know I will, but I really want to get my time goal. All that is left is taper, so the job is done at this point. Sigh.
