Reviews: Oahu Revealed and Hawaii The Big Island Revealed

Oahu Revealed
I found this book to be, by far, one of the best guide books I've ever used. We were only on Oahu for a few days, and the concise, easy organization of this book helped us to zero in on exactly what sights were best to fit in for our short visit. We did two separate driving trips (up Tantalus and around the east side of the island) and this book made doing it a snap. With regard to Tantalus, I had looked up the information before we left the mainland, and I'd looked at the map and decided it was going to be too hard to find. Once on Oahu, we decided to give it a try and I didn't even use the map - only directions straight out of this guide. I found it, no problem.

Hawaii The Big Island Revealed
I had first purchased Oahu Revealed. We were visiting The Big Island also, and after spending a few days perusing the Oahu version, I knew I had to have The Big Island Revealed as well. These are wonderful guidebooks, and made traveling around the island easy. We were spending a very short time on land (the rest of the time spent on a scuba diving liveaboard), and needed to see as much as we could in a short period of time. The advice given for the drive from Kona to Hilo was invaluable. We easily made the most out of our day, just doing the drive and taking the scenic routes recommended by the book.

I found the reviews to be accurate, and those marked "not to be missed!" were actually not to be missed. I'm not sure we would have known what to pick and choose from on the island had it not been for this book. The book even recommended what time of day to visit a particular attraction, making it better for photos.

I am quite critical of travel guides, but for once I have nothing negative to say about either of these books. They were an excellent purchase and I highly recommend them.
