My Lenten Promise: To Be Thankful

When I was a kid, I totally disliked Lent. I hated that I had to give up something, and I didn't really understand why I had to. Even as an adult, I used to tell people that I refuse to believe that God cares whether or not I eat meat on a particular day. Nowadays, I don't consider myself Catholic anymore at all. Well, I still have the guilt. I don't think you ever get rid of the guilt. However, both Todd and I were both married in the Catholic church for our first marriages, so now I'm just living in sin with him. At least, to the church. So, I tend to put myself in a different category other than Catholic.

I thought about it, though, and this year, I really wanted to do something for Lent. It doesn't mean giving something up, because I often feel like I give up plenty just being a runner and trying to eat healthy. So, instead, I decided to do something extra to appreciate this life a little more.

A few weeks ago, I stumbled across Thankful for, which is a site that hooks into twitter and simply lets people be thankful for things in a public way. This lenten season, I'm going to be thankful for something every day. (I will have to be thankful for two things today, as I missed yesterday).

I know, it's a small thing. I might try and think of some other things, too. For now, watch for #thankfulfor on my tweets. You can also find my list of thanks here.
