MBE: Favorite Athletes

Monday Brain Exchange is sponsored by Jill at Finishing is Winning.

Topic: Favorite Athletes
Question: Who are your Top 5 favorite athletes? And why? They can be famous or infamous, to do with your sport or be in a completely different sport.

This is a great question because I actually have a distaste for professional sports.  However, I do have some favorite athletes.
  1. Cal Ripken.  What can I say, I'm from Maryland, and I've lived in the Baltimore suburbs for a decade now.  How can you not like Cal Ripken, even if you don't like baseball and no longer follow the Orioles?
  2. Jeff Galloway.  Ah, that Olympian that made it possible for me to finish a marathon (or 5 marathons, even).  Jeff competed in the 1972 Olympics.
  3. Lance Armstrong.  Lance is such a great role model, and his story is a wonderful example of how you can make things happen, even when the odds are stacked against you.  I love Lance.
  4. Michael Phelps.  Again, I'm from Maryland, so I love Michael Phelps.  And, while loving Michael Phelps isn't as universal in my state as loving Cal Ripken, he is still pretty popular.  Plus, I've met his mom and his mom was Todd's home ec teacher.  So, you know.  There's some connection there.
  5. Meb Keflezighi.  I subscribe to Meb's Twitter Feed, and he just seems like an all around great guy.  Plus, he is a terrific runner.
There you have it!
