MBE: Summer Fun and Training

Question: With the warmer weather brings BBQ’s, vacations and summer holiday fun…how do you manage a balance between training and fun?

To be quite honest, I think that running has just become a habit and I always seem to manage to fit it in.  It's just something that I have to do, the same as eating or going to work or chores around the house.  I have to run.  It's everything else that is the problem - weight training, bike riding, other stuff.

Running fits in for me because I have friends that I run with, and I am being social when I run (well, not lately).  It keeps me happy, and it's just what I do.  I also benefit from the Galloway program, since it only requires three runs a week.  I can do three runs a week.

I also get up SUPER EARLY for my long runs on Saturday.  That helps.  You don't generally interfere with a BBQ or cookout when you're running at 5am...  LOL  They might interfere with things happening on Friday night, but I guess I've just adjusted to not going out on Friday night.  Maybe we're just homebodies these days, who knows.

Now, as for the weight training and the bike riding...  I don't know.  I've got to manage to fit those in somehow.

I think not going out on Friday nights is the best thing I do for myself. And I agree...running is easy; it's the rest of the stuff!!
